It’s the Perfect Time for Service
Spring and summer RV travel wears on your RV or motorhome. As part of standard RV upkeep, manufacturers recommend preventative maintenance and service be performed on the working components at least once per year. Lazydays makes it easy with several convenient motorized or towable service bundles, where many services and inspections are packaged for time and money savings.
Many RVers winterize their RVs during August or September, which is a great choice, but RVers who want to take another trip or two need not worry. October or early-November is a great time to winterize your RV at your local Lazydays RV service center. Our RV winterization service includes:
- Leak inspection, water pressurization and running antifreeze through your RV or motorhome’s water system.
- RV appliance winterization (available at an additional cost).

For RVers traveling during the winter, preparing your RV for the unique weather and challenges that off-season travel brings is key. A few things to get ready for a new season of RV adventures include:
- Filling you fresh water tank: During the winter months, a full freshwater tank helps prevent freezing and ensures you have enough water if you visit a campground that has shut off its water hookups for the off-season.
- Inspect your RV batteries: RV batteries may show signs of damage or corrosion after a long travel season. Having your batteries fail in the middle of a trip, especially in bad weather, can be dangerous. If your batteries are in good shape, double-check to make sure they’re charged before setting off.
- Have plenty of options to keep warm: In the unlikely event that your RV’s heater breaks down, having other ways to keep warm is key. Pack extra sleeping bags, blankets, gloves, hand warmers and other warm clothes just in case.
- Make sure your RV’s carbon monoxide detector is working: Carbon monoxide is an often-overlooked danger during cold-weather RV trips. Mark Polk of RV Education 101 advises that “along with colder temperatures, the threat of carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning increases. It’s important to raise awareness and education about what carbon monoxide gas is, and how to recognize and treat CO symptoms. Always make sure you have a properly working CO detector in the RV and test it before leaving on a camping trip.”

Great Trip Opportunities Are Available
Off-season RVing during the winter months is a great way for RVers to enjoy incredible trips without some of the pitfalls of peak season travel. The first thing many RVers and travelers enjoy about off-season travel is the smaller crowds. During the winter, popular summer destinations like beaches, national parks and RV campgrounds are typically less crowded. Much of the south see temperatures fall into the 70s and the humidity drop during the fall, making places like Savannah, GA, and New Orleans, LA ideal destinations. The southwest offers cooler temperatures as well, which makes fall the perfect time for a road trip to the Grand Canyon or Northern Arizona wine country.
In the fall, RVers have plenty of great trip ideas to choose from that are unique to this time of year. Football and fall foliage vacations are some of the most popular ideas for this time of year. A few other great fall RV destinations include:
- Glenwood Springs, CO: Enjoy mild, comfortable temperatures and the area’s renowned mineral hot springs with an RV trip to Glenwood Springs. About three hours east of Lazydays RV Denver, this quiet resort town offers plenty of ways for RVers to kick back and relax amongst the beautiful Rocky Mountains. RVers looking for some off-season adventure can enjoy several activities including biking, fly-fishing and kayaking.
- Palm Springs, CA: If you’re in the mood for gorgeous desert scenery without the scalding temperatures, a visit to Palm Springs during October or November is the trip for you. This quaint city is in the heart of the Sonoran Desert of southern California and is a great place to unwind during the fall. - Lake of the Ozarks: Located in the heart of Missouri, RVers will find everything from boating to golfing to go along with incredible fall foliage. - The Outer Banks: This island chain off the coast of North Carolina is a very popular summer vacation destination and a hidden gem during the winter. A favorite of RV Education founders Mark and Dawn Polk, the Outer Banks combine fascinating historical landmarks and gorgeous scenery. Make sure to check out the Wright Brothers Museum to learn about the origins of flight or Roanoke Island, the first settlement in the Americas.
- Mount Bachelor, Oregon: Just over 10 minutes outside of Bend, OR, Mount Bachelor is one of the top ski resorts on the west coast. The mountain offers over 100 runs going through 4,318 skiable acres. It features an ideal mix of easy, medium and high difficulty terrain and great dining and après ski options. Even better, the city of Bend is just next door!
- Santa Fe, New Mexico: While arguably a snowbird destination, Santa Fe offers a range of winter activities and other off-season perks. Three major ski areas are located within a two-hour drive of the city and temperatures in the Santa Fe area hover between the 40s and 50s. The city’s gorgeous Spanish revival architecture make any walk around town worth taking your time.
