When purchasing a trailer it is important to consider the towing capacity of your tow vehicle. The towing capacity should be sufficient to tow not only the dry, unloaded weight of the trailer but you must account for: trailer weight, passenger weight, added accessories, liquids in tanks, and any cargo and camping gear you have loaded. For toy haulers, you must leave additional cargo capacity for any cargo you wish to store such as motorcycles, ATV's or any other recreational equipment. For this tow guide we have allowed for 1,000 lbs for trailers over 8,000 lbs, 750 lbs for trailers under 8,000 lbs, and 500 lbs for trailers under 5,000 lbs for average Cargo Weight. You must determine if these allowances are adequate for your situation. BECAUSE THE CARGO NEEDS OF ITS CUSTOMERS VARY WIDELY, LAZYDAYS MAKES NO REPRESENTATIONS OR WARRANTIES ABOUT THE SUITABILITY OF ANY TRAILER WITH ANY PARTICULAR TOW VEHICLE. It is important that an owner of a trailer never assume that his or her vehicle can safely tow a trailer when it is fully loaded with cargo. It is your responsibility to ensure that the trailer and/or tow vehicle is not overloaded so as to exceed the towing capacity of the trailer, tow vehicle or hitch. Always confirm your vehicle’s towing capacity and hitch capacity directly from your vehicle's manufacturer before purchasing or towing a trailer. When purchasing a truck to tow a fifth wheel, you must ensure that the cargo carrying capacity of the truck is sufficient to accommodate the pin weight of the fifth wheel. The decision to operate your vehicle and tow a trailer is ultimately your responsibility. In the event that there is no available data for your specific trailer and/or vehicle, please consult with the manufacturer in order to get the most accurate information.
