If your summertime RV travels will take you through the Grand Canyon State, make sure to stop by these outdoor attractions to cool off!

Arizona offers no shortage of natural wonders: from the Grand Canyon to beautiful pine-covered mountains. Of course it’s also one of the sunniest locales in the nation, and in summer it can get quite toasty. Luckily, Arizona also offers tons of places to swim, relax and cool down. Here are some of our team’s favorite lakes, waterfalls and shady spots where you can cool down during your next Arizona adventure:

Apache Lake

Apache Lake is a large reservoir, along the Salt River in central Arizona, with many things to do. Once you’ve taken a dip in the water or enjoyed some boating or fishing, go exploring in the Superstition Wilderness and take a tour of The Three Bar Wildlife Area.

Havasu Falls

Havasu Falls, located on the Havasupai Native American Reservation, is one of Arizona’s top destinations for hikers. With its breathtaking emerald-colored waters and colorful canyon cliffs, it’s definitely a destination worth adding to your bucket list. Be sure to stock your RV with essentials, because Havasu Falls is pretty far off the beaten path.

Oak Creek Canyon

Oak Creek Canyon offers about a 14-mile scenic drive along Route 89A, between Sedona and Flagstaff. It’s sometimes called the smaller cousin of the Grand Canyon, with Oak Creek meandering along its floor. There are plenty of spots to stop and swim or cool off in the shade within the forested canyon.

Payson

Located at the geographical center of Arizona, Payson is a town often called “the heart of Arizona”. This summer, you’ll want to visit Payson for its nearby cold water lakes and the sights of Tonto National Forest, in which the town is situated.

Slide Rock State Park

Slide Rock State Park gets its name from a stretch of slippery creek beds that form a sort of natural rock waterslide. After you enjoy slipping and sliding in the creek, be sure to check out the nearby Pendley Homestead, an apple farm opened in 1907 under the Homestead Act.

Theodore Roosevelt Lake

Roughly 80 miles northeast of Phoenix, in the Salt River Valley, you’ll find Roosevelt Lake, the reservoir formed by the Roosevelt Dam. Swim, fish and boat in the lake, tour the dam itself, and explore nearby hiking trails while you’re there.
